ANNIKA CHAMBERS - Segment Begins At The 13:20 Mark

Annika Chambers has begun to take the Blues World by storm and if you do not know her...YOU WILL SOON! She was named 2013 Houston Press - Best Female Vocalist, her debut album Making My Mark, has created a buzz about this talented woman and during the IBC she introduced herself to the Blues World in a big way. Annika and I spoke about how she found the blues while serving in the military and falling in love with the genre. We also discussed how the album went from a demo to a full-scale album.

JIM GUSTIN - Segment Begins At The 1:15:35 Mark

Jim Gustin is a singer, songwriter, guitarist, and performer from Santa Clarita, California. He has a distinctive, powerful voice; soulful and blue with smoky rasp, he is a passionate and energetic performer. His many varied influences are evident as he crosses from blues to country to rock and roll. He is also a very solid guitarist with great tone and a funky feel. I chatted with Jim about his life and the years he spent on the road working his talents and finally having the chance to get into a studio and lay it all down. We also checked out tunes from Can't Shed A Tear.

BERNIE PEARL - COUCH KID NEW MUSIC - Segment Begins At The 2:09:00 Mark

Halley DeVestern has been playing guitar since before her teens and her voice is a powerful instrument. She has toured with Big Brother & the Holding Company and the comparisons to Janis have been made. Halley joined me and we chatted about her life and the years she toiled in the business to get to where she is today. We were by her husband, song-writing partner, bassist Tom Heinig & listened to songs from the new album, Fabbo! STEVE DAWSON - Segment Begins At The 47:30 Mark

Steve Dawson does it all; He writes lyrics and music and performs his works He is also a successful producer who has worked with folks like Old Man Luedecke, The Sojourners and more. His new project is Rattlesnake Cage and it is a collection of 12 acoustic instrumental originals. Steve and I discussed his career and how he became the prolific producer he is today.  We also discussed the new album.

KYLE HENDERSON - Segment Begins At The 1:33:30 Mark

Kyle Henderson has been around since his band Whiteface was signed to Mercury Records in the late 70's. Though that effort never panned out, Kyle was a part of The Producer's who signed with Portrait Records and acheived some success during the MTV era. Kyle has released Brand New Chance with his quartet based out of Madison, Wisconsin and he came by to talk about his long, sometimes difficult career and the new path he is following today.
We also discussed how The Producers have recorded a new album produced by Tab Benoit and Kyle promised to come back and visit in April when it is scheduled to be released.

MARK T SMALL - COUCH KID NEW MUSIC - Segment Begins At The 2:22:10 Mark

"Couch Kid", Mark T Small returned with his new album, Smokin' Blues. This is a collection of Mark's favorite "guitar grooves played using both fingerpicking and flat picking techniques" and it is a winner IMHO. Mark and I talked about the making of the album and his special guests on the disc as we played a selection of tunes.

Tommy Talton originally Sat On The Couch back in May 2012 and then returned in October of that year to discuss his new album Let's get Outta Here. On this evening he stopped by at the top of the show to give us details on a new DVD package and the upcoming release of the debut Cowboy album, a huge treat for Cowboy fans around the globe.

HARD GARDEN - Segment Begins At The 5:15 Mark

Hard Garden is Son Jack Jr, Michael Wilde and Garrett Williams and their debut album is entitled Blue Yonder and it is raising eyebrows throughout the Blues World. Their music is deep blues moved into the 21st Century and it grabs you from the first note. I sat with the guys and we explored their youth and how the they found the music and then each other. We chatted about their feelings about the state of the blues and their hope that their music is pushing it to a new level.

JAMES "BOOGALOO" BOLDEN - Segment Begins At The 43:54 Mark

James has been in BB King's band for over 30 years and has acted as bandleader for some 20 years.   He is now out promoting his new album, No News. Jus The Blues and James came by to discuss his incredible career and the new album. He is out promoting it in between gigs with the King and discussed the many opportunities to learn that came across his path throughout his career.

JOHN LYONS - Segment Begins At The 1:43:23 Mark

John Lyons is originally from Michigan, but has lived in Switzerland with his family since 2001. His passion for music began early in his life and it has never left. John is still making music and his new album, Sing Me Another Song is a collection of 12 originals. As John says, "Music is my calling in life, a commitment. I write this music...for me. And also for you"  John and I traced his history and how he ended up in Switzerland and then his beginning to play music after a time off. John talked about the new album and how it is impacting his life today and where he hopes it takes him tomorrow.

SUNDAY WILDE - COUCH KID NEW MUSIC - Segment Begins At The 2:08:50 Mark

Sunday originally Sat On The Couch back in November of 2011 and then returned to The Couch in January of 2013 with her new album He Gave Me A Blue Nightgown. Tonight she returns with her brand new release He Digs Me, which dropped just last week. Along with Sunday, we spoke with Rennie Frattua, her producer and partner about the recording of the album, their plans for 2014.

Jim Suhler has been performing since the 80's and since 1999 he has played with George Thorogood and The Destroyers as well as leading his own band, Monkey Beat. His new album, Panther Burn was released last week and Jim came by to discuss his early career, how he met up with George and became a Destroyer and the new album, which he produced.

DAVE MUSKETT - Segment Begins At The 46:45 Mark

Dave Muskett has earned his way to Memphis for the IBC in both 2012 and 2014 and his 2012 release The Muskett Brothers Blues Show was nominated as Best Self-Produced CD by the Cincy Blues Society. Dave and I chatted about his going from being a 17 year old, living alone to playing all sorts of music to keep food on the table, to finding the finger-picking style he has now mastered. We also listened to music from his latest release Double EP.

BLACK TONGUED BELLES - Segment Begins At The 1:31:05

The Black Tongued Bells describe their sound as "a steamy gumbo of gothic-gospel juju, hopped up rock & roll, and dirt-pounding juke joint blues" and their debut album Every Tongue Has A Tale To Tell was selected as one of the top 50 Blues CDs Played Worldwide by The Root Music Report. I was joined by D. Miner, lead guitarist and vocalist, drummer, fiddle and backing vocals Ray Herron and Anthony Cook, bass guitar and backing vocals. We spoke about their individual lives and careers and how two guys from California and a guy from New York got together to create music born in the swamps of Louisiana.

DOUG BRINEY - COUCH KID NEW MUSIC - Segment Begins At The 2:17:37 Mark

Doug Briney first Sat On The Couch in September 2012. This evening he returned to talk about his latest release, Super Country Cowboy, which earned him a nomination for Best Male Artist for the Nashville Universe Awards. We talked about what his life has been like since he last appeared including his move from Alaska to Nashville and what 2014 holds.
